“Yo it's Chase and I come from Tokyo” That's what I said when I was 9 years old at the city mall with my dad. I lied. I'm actually from the suburbs of Minneapolis and I've been loving electronics since the third grade. It was a random Tuesday morning where a person from Medtronic was coming to our class to teach us about this thing called STEM, a new curriculum accelerator for us youth. It worked.
Anyways, now I'm a 22-year-old electronics engineer and doing my master’s thesis in robotic perception and such. Also, I’ve been interning at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (it’s actually Cray but they don’t want me to say that) the past two summers as both a Verification Engineering and Firmware Engineer! During my undergrad I had the opportunity to work with great student groups like Engineers Without Borders, Solar Vehicle Project and of course IEEE. With each experience I've learned from new personalities, different skill sets, and way crazier ambitions than my own, and I have to say I’m pretty thankful for that.
In terms of my hobbies I like to skateboard whether it be analog or digital, I kind of like digital more but like you know whatever. Going along with the skateboarder trope, I also like to take cool photos around the city and of my friends, kinda predictable there. Thankfully though, I like to use my skills where they're needed. I've had the chance to make promotional material and marketing videos for student groups which was a total blast!
Another fun fact for fellow ECE friends is that I TA’ed for Microcontrollers 2361 for about two years. That class is amazing, and I hope you like it even though it's one of the hardest for where it's placed in the curriculum. BTW that wasn't meant to just be a cool fact, it's also meant to say if you want any help with class work or someone to talk about embedded development with, hit my line.
Finally, mentioning involvement in IEEE itself, I started on the board Fall 2021 as the Membership Coordinator. I got to make some promotional material (which was kinda ugly, check the Instagram if you’re curious) and also helped get people aware of what UMN IEEE is all about. Following that year I was elected as Chair. Throughout the 2022-2023 school year I tried my best to energize the club, getting various companies, campus organizations, and students together for great networking events! Now for the 2023-2024 school year I'll be holding the position of Treasurer. My initial goals for this year are two fold. First, I hope to find two to three reliable yearly sponsors in which we can incorporate into recurring events. Second, I want to ensure that our lounge is stocked with modern equipment that our ECE students require to complete extraordinary work parallel to their studies.
Can't wait to meet with you all this year!
